A PHOTO HISTORY OF BLOOMSBURG

BLOOMSBURG TODAY

Four families have lived in the home that James B. Mathews built in 1830 on then Westminster Road, now Rt 97.
This section describes the transfer of property between these owners over the past 180 years.

The first two purchases were for the land on which Bloomsburg was built.  James then purchased 3 additional properties.  The last four purchases were the sale of the Bloomsburg property to its new owners.

This section contains the introductory text for each deed as well as a full copy of each deed as it was recorded in the Anne Arundel and then Howard County records.  Have fun!  Most of the original deeds are available now only at the Maryland Archives in Annapolis, MD.

James B. Mathews purchased at least 5 properties in and around Glenwood, MD between 1825 and 1854.  The earliest record of a house built by James B. Mathews, at what is now 3100 Route 97, Glenwood, MD was in 1830 on land he purchased in 1825.
